3 pointsWe are under a blizzard warning here in southern MN expecting 4 to 12 inches of snow and high winds so I thought I better get the Farmall in the shop since the old girl doesn't start very well when it gets cold out (6V system)....I couldn't resist taking the 552 out for a little bit to clear the driveway, that little Lauson didn't miss a beat. I put a HL5 light on it so I could see a little better and I dug out the 6x12 chains that I will install tomorrow, the tractor bars would work great but I have a pretty good incline to get up and was spinning a little. Schools are already cancelled it should be interesting to see what tomorrow brings.

Pugh Hey guys,this was my father.He had a heart attack at work sunday evening.It was sudden and he had no suffering so in that respect I am thankful.Still hard though.I just wanted to say thanks for letting my dad be a part of your family.He enjoyed talking tractors.I have to try now and go through his stuff to see what all i have I can fix and what I have to part out.It will take me a while.I do have a 1966 1057 that he gave me last year that I will eventually refinish in his honor.I will be around but it may a while before I can get started.Thanks again and God Bless,Richard Pugh Oh yeah one more thing..... take those near and dear to you and tell them you love them as often as possible.Never know when the last hug might be.Don't wait! 2 pointsBelieving it or not...it is an astronomical event. The earth, sun and the black hole at the center of our galaxy will all line up as we pass through the plane of the Milky Way. As we go through this for the next couple of years, the gravitational pull from our neighbors will be different. It may not be the end of the earth, but the earth will be acting a little different because of some of these changes. When you look at just the effect of the moon on the tides, you start to realize that maybe more volcanic activity, maybe more violent weather patterns and maybe even a reverse of polarity at the poles are possible. Stock up with your favorite beverage people and watch the show. :happy-jumpeveryone:

Its my hope to have the tractor completed for the 2013 WH Show. 99% of the fab work is completed, I just need to repair the rear hubs and then start the sand blasting nightmare, LOL! Its my plan to continue updating my YouTube Channel as meaningful progress is completed. Everything about the tractor will be 100%, all new bushings, bearings and basicly a NOS Briggs Model 8 motor. As you can see from the attached pics I used a RJ hood as the buck for the fiberglass hood. I made the top and nose in two parts and them married them together. What a mess it made.

1 pointwith all the talk on here about snowblowers, i thought it was time to take a look at the one i got with my c160 purchase. not in the best condition, very tight and almost impossible to get any movement out of the auger and generally looking pretty sad. the main body is really beat up and has more than its fair share of cracks. so feeling like it was time to break the drought on working with the red stuff, i started to get stuck into it........ the auger shaft was my first plan of attack. frozen bearings that were tight on the shaft, it was a battle to get it apart. i could get some movement with a drift, beating on the end of the shaft, not easy but it was moving. then it didnt want to go any more, had about 8" of shaft out the other side, so i thought, well lets see if i can knock it back, and in the process knocked out one bearing from the auger as the end of the shaft didn't line up with the bearing id and just pushed it out. the end of the auger was free of the body so the bearing just fell out...... so i thought well lets get something long down in the auger center and knock the other bearing out of the other end of the auger tube. success. had just enough room to wiggle and turn out the auger and get it off the shaft. then i just cut off the bearing and removed the shaft from the main body........ the auger needs some work to get it looking right, looks like a history of hitting hard objects. i want to replace bearings, fix all the cracks, clean it up and paint it and put it to use. heres how it ended up tonight, before id had enough......... need to get a list together of bearing part numbers, i will start searching, if anyone has some part numbers to throw my way to save me some time, it would be much appreciated.....

1 pointDon1977 got me thinking about this again so I decided too do it as the 1533 bearing is no longer available from toro My fix needs some machine work to beable to do this replacement the standard 1533 bearing dim. are 1 1/2" ID x 2 1/2" OD x 1/2" W the new R22 bearing I'm replacing it with is 1 3/8" ID x 2 1/2" OD x 7/16" W so this requires I remove .0625 from the differential hubs Since we don't have a manual lathe at work I setup my vertical lathe turned the dia. to 1.375 plus 0 minus .0005 1533 bearing is on the left and the R22 bearing is on the right notice the R22 is a heavier bearing and should work just fine as the original 1533 bearing is 1/2" wide and the R22 is 7/16" wide I use a .0625 shim to make up the differance shim in place on diff. hub R22 bearing installed with shim this should work fine for the old transmissions that use the 1533 bearing with 1" axles Brian

1 pointHello all, I haven't posted on here in a while so I thought I'd give an update. I was working on finishing up a C160 8speed and only needed to paint the hood and apply Terrys decals when I had to shelve that project for more pressing duties. Anyway, a good guy from down the road a ways had bought a 1992 520 for the engine and trans and didn't have use for the rest of it. Well I ended up with it so now it looks like I'll be doing the wide front end with the reduction steering and big wheels out back (when time becomes available again).

1 pointFor some time I have wanted to biuld a clone of the 1954 RJ Prototype tractor on the cover of Mike Martino's 2nd Edition and also feachered in the very early 1955 RJ ad (my avatar). I looked for about a year before finding what I felt was the perfect RJ in order to base the project on. What I started out with was a ruff condition 1955 Cable Steer RJ35. It was missing the hood, engine, seat, original front rims and most of the cable steer parts. It did although have the veri drive, belt guard and rear drive intact. Some of the parts which I had to make in order to clone the Prototype correctly was the fiberglass RJ hood, pilot steering wheel, most, if not all of cable steer parts and speed selector items. 1 pointThis is my fathers new toy, it's a 1974 Wheel Horse B-100 Auto. It came with the original squared trailer, and the 36" RD mower deck. It looks original to me, too. But, there is no remains of a fender decal, and there isn't a Uni-Drive decal on the transmission. it is a good runner, though! 540 hours on an unoriginal hour meter. I never met the owner, but I heard it was bought new by his father. He couldn't remember if it had been redone or not. What do you think? Spenser.

1 pointPerhaps I'm overstepping my boundaries here - and ignore it if you prefer..... If you move the muffler down as low as possible there shouldn't be as much stress on the header pipe. You can add a piece of pipe at the top of the muffler to get the overall height back. From my 'paint shop':

No banking, no communications, no Checking Out at stores, ha! How would We do it? Mayans have date wrong. Was a bit earlier.......see many Mayan's around now?? It's all B/S and wonder what minds make up all these doomsday ideas? Would think Atomic wars or climate change would be much more important worry. All of US here will be long gone before any pole changes and climate change happens, and it will be a LOng, Slow process anyway. Humans may adapt as it happens??

1 pointI picked up this cultivator to put on my 701, there isn't much of it that's not bent. I got the front section straightened out and rewelded this morning, I still have a shank or two and the rear section to straighten. I always thought these looked good mounted on a tractor, I'll have this painted when the tractor gets painted.

1 pointTake the gauge out and clean the post on the back, most are threaded studs remove the nuts that hold the flat spade on and clean everything I like to use Dialectic grease when doing this type of work it is made for electrical connections, be sure to get the nuts holding the spades on tight, then do not over tighten the nuts that hold the bracket, you can short it out by pushing the plastic spacers out of the bracket.

But I did stock up the liqueur cabinet today...plenty of Rock & Rye, Port wine, home made wine, Black Russians, Martinis and some Grants 12 year old Scotch. Bring on the alignment of the planets and let's move into the upper hemisphere of the Milky Way Galaxy. I am ready...horses are anxious for sure...think I might bed down with them tonight. 1 pointThey are awesome in my opinion. We have one and I use it when scraping the underside of my wheel horse decks. I have used it on my 310, 1057, and 314H with NO problems. The model we have is the cheaper one....about $200 at Tractor Supply.

1 pointTotally different set-up than a solid-mounted engine with the big oil pan. The C-141 has the smaller oil pan / rubber-mounted engine. As previously stated, those models would originally have a pipe nipple, a coupler, and an allen head pipe plug sticking straight down out of the bottom of the pan.

1 pointThis was my '75 B-80 4 speed: I found a perfect (and identical) seat on a Simplicity 3110 rear-engined rider, but the mounting holes were different. My 'fix' for wrong bolt patterns: I pull the edge trim off and remove the cover & foam. Lay out and drill the four 3/8" holes (gives you a little 'wiggle room') in the correct locations, secure the seat to the mounting surface with 5/16" bolts & plain nuts (up through ~ like normal), and weld the nuts to the 'top' of the seat pan. Reinstall the cover and edge trim and it's done. If you don't have a welder or access to one - or the seat has a plastic pan with a removable cushion - you can install the pan and tighten the fasteners, then install the cover & edge trim.

1 pointI am a firm believer in SeaFoam as a stabilizer and a cleaner. I mix it in my 3 gallon gas can and then use that for all the tractors and mowers...use it in my truck also. If you read the label on the can, this stuff is so great that I think you could put it on a Pizza and it would taste better. :)

1 pointCheck the end of the set screw, it should have cup like depression in the end that will dig into the woodruff key. I bet yours is worn smooth. Buy a new one at any hardware store 3/8 16TPI 1.5 inch or longer

1 pointI tilled the remains under, put the 10" plough on the 314-8 and almost doubled the size of the garden. My son-in-law that lives in town is going to garden with me next year. I will put two years worth of composted leaves and this years leaves on the garden and till them in. I always look forward to spring! It's time to thin the deer herd and I am looking forward to that, too!

1 pointWork with with you have to start. Needle bearings are cheap. Look at the pinned post on this section for part numbers. 1-1/8th inch axle is Herrington B1816 seal CR11050...1" axle B1616. Seals CR9815 Center gasket is available from Toro for about $5. The only hard to find part is the inner axle ball bearing. Hopefully your needle bearing didn't completely fail and damage the ball bearing in the process. Download teh trans repair manual and search this forum for even more pictures. If it was shifting OK you will not need to get too far in.
