Even though I've had my 857 Wheel Horse for 15 or so years, I am new to this site. The 3 pictures show some of my modifications. They are taller front spindles, larger rear wheels, spring seat, individual fenders, rerouted drive belt and modified belt guard, and in the summer, the lift handle for the snow plow is used as a hand clutch, which is great for the grandkids. I don't have a mower deck for this tractor, but I am looking to either up grade the engine to a 10HP - if it will fix - and buy a 42" side discharge deck. Has anyone out there tryed doing this? OR, I may just sell the 857 and buy a 10 or 12HP Raider or Charger and have fun restoring/modifing it. Is there a site that documents the different models and the changers the factory made down throught the years? For example; when was the deck drive moved from behind the front wheels to in front of the wheels and why? I also own a '64 110 JD, a '66 B10 AC, and a '89 4016 Ingersol, all restored and used daily/weekly.

Today I went on what I would now consider a great pick. Yeah, I know that makes me sound like Mike Wolfe, but thats really what it was. I drove over an hour away to go look at a '60 Suburban (which I also bought), and the guy showed me around his barns. He had by far the largest collection of pedal tractors I have ever seen in my life. But while I was getting dirty and climbing around one of the barns, this odd ball metal box with numbers on the side and an engine cylinder head in plain view sticking out caught my attention. He said he didn't know much about it other than that he bought it from an old guy who was an airline pilot and the guy claimed it was a cargo sized 49cc foldable motor bike. The numbers on the side corresponded to the aircraft tail number it belonged in. I was like....what? It turns out it is a Valmobile Suitcase Scooter. They were designed in France and produced in Japan during the 50's. They were marketed as a suitcase scooter that could be taken anywhere and/or stored anywhere. According to reading I have done, they became especially popular as emergency transportation in airplanes small boats etc. But they really didn't sell well and the main distribution company located in NJ shortly went bankrupt. Of course there seems to be several collector forums for these things and a pretty serious following. I haven't had much luck finding too much info on value, but I'm confident my gamble in buying it will not leave me at a loss if I decide to ever sell it. The guy claims it runs fine and being a 2 stroke he said it probably will fire right up with little effort.

Not like back in the day Mike, when all the town trouble makers were out blowin' up all the tractors in the neighborhood. Whew! I just spent all evening decorating the rusty 702 project I blew apart last night... what do you think?

1961 Panzer t70 i got this it was painted red and engine needed rebuild. I got all engine parts from napa, I sand blasted the chassis and found pin holes on the bottom of the tubing. They had been full of dirt mud grass and water rotted the frame out.No way to repair it. so i made 2 new frame rails for it and welded them to the rear axle. set it up in milling machine and drilled all the holes. The tubing on these tractors where made from black pipe, gas pipe odd size so i picked up some from lowes. well heres the frame now. after having this thing for three years. I got some paint on it. I have a brand new NOS deck for it too.rear diff i put bearings seals new brake linings and made new front spindles.

Another great masterpiece from Terry AKA The Vinyl Guy!! When I got my 520-H from the original owner, he had the manuals, maintenance sticker,Onan engine tag and lo and behold a paper Chemlawn/Wheel Horse ad. After I posted a picture of it on RS, Terry offered to reproduce it into a poster and look at the results! Hats off to Terry and all the work he does!!!!

Statistically speaking, it's precisely at this moment when our GT's are the most dangerous. Your focus should be on avoiding these situations to prevent the tractor from riding you.

Kelly, I guess I should clear that up a little. It's a standard 1057 tray. Which as you would know is larger than the 'normal' lawn and garden battery tray. Sorry for any confusion. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

That is perhaps the funniest excuse I have ever heard! As you might have noticed by the age of some of these tractors in attendance here, they do not have an expiration date. If what you are stating would be an actual issue, we would only be able to have one tractor at a time and I know that ain't gonna float with me. In case you get it running/driving soon....... the current front rims look like the rears from a lawn tractor. (straight 3/4" keyed hub / no bearings) If they are, do not drive the tractor or the spindles will be damaged.

If you were to do something with it... IMO I would just sell it complete. Nice free-flowing muffler on it... :ychain:

Craig, weld it back up and grind it smooth. Then add a plate on the inside to act as extra support.

320 CCA garden size, from the auto parts store. Get 4-5 years sometimes longer life. I don't like to, and don't, ever keep a battery longer. A tuned engine, starts easily. Winter, I use 10 W 30 synthetic crankcase oil.
