Here's a few more in progress... Decided to go ahead and replace all of the nuts & bolts in the entire tractor so I had to make another run to town. After many hours and lot's of coffee, I decided I wasn't going to make my deadline so I didn't repaint the rear wheels. Here it is completely assembled. It's done enough to take to the show. Unfortunately it has developed another fuel leak, this time at the rebuilt carb. I ran it long enough to burn up the fuel in the carb and will just be pushing it around again until I can fix it on Sunday.

About two years ago I bought a rough Bantam 8000 with a very rare belly mower. I've stripped it down to every last nut and bolt and have been slowly going through it. The body has been totally blasted, repaired and blocked numerous times. The fenders were all hand dollied to straighten them out too. I had the body parts professionslly painted by a friend of mine and finally got all the orange parts back from him this week. He still has to clear the hood and finish the black items (seat, rear rims and all engine tins). It's 1968 Chevy hugger orange and urethane clear. The rear fender stripes were re-stenciled, sprayed and cleared in as well. The plan is to get it back together for spring.

I planted a large garden this year but the heat and drought pretty much wiped it out I got quite a bit out of it but not enough to do any canning I heard of a produce auction that is every Monday Wednesday and Friday from May through October I finally went to it this week Monday and Wednesday I was able to purchase 250 pounds of tomatoes for under $30 these are locally grown and the farmers bring them to the auction to sell them and they are very nice size and flavor. Now I am busy canning salsa, pasta sauce, tomato juice and tomato soup. After going there I am trying to decide if I should even take the time to put in a garden next year since they sell every kind of vegetable you could think of the only problem is you usually need to purchase them in lots like when I got my first batch of tomatoes I had to purchase 7 boxes at 25 pounds per box I paid $3 per box, pumpkins were selling for 50 to 75 cents each, squash was selling at $50-$75 for a tote of 400 the prices were great but what would I do with 400 squash.

I know that Karl had posted that RedSquare raised $1800 to be sent to St. Baldrick's in Max's name, we helped raise that total by adding $1500 more to the cause for a grand total of $3300 that is heading off to make a huge difference. I want to congratulate all of you who chipped in to make a HUGE difference! Well the moment of truth........I am sure many of you have been waiting for this all day long. First ticket that was drawn was.........HENRYG The second ticket that was drawn..........limited 12 and the third and final ticket drawn..............neil Congratulations to all 3 of you. I am going to hand over the responsiblities of these to Karl Lyon and Tom Cornford to make sure that you are able to recieve a great collectible. Great job RedSquare...........you are all to be commended! I will post more later after a chance to get some much needed sleep! Hi, I'm Pat, Patrick, either or... I'm new to wheel horse, my dad gave me one and I thought it was junk at first, but have since fallen in love with it. I might restore it, but only the metal, everything else is good. I will post a pic or two later. About me, I've been in the fire service for about 34 years now. I served in the Army for a few years and I am a combat vet x3. I travel alot, like everyother month overseas protecting our diplomats and other govt employees at the embassies. I have no region and have been to over 33 different countries in just over two years. Please do not ask questions about my job, most I cannot or will not answer.. sorry, anywho, i would rather talk about tractors, wheel horse to be exact. if anyone out there knows of a way to test a rectifier let me know, i had one that either got hot and burned up the wires or went bad. the tractor runs good just does not charge the battery. I just put the charger on it for an hour before i mow. I would also like to find a good used blade for the front or snowblower. feel free to send msg's or emails .. if i do not answer quickly, i'm more than likely overseas. but I will answer just bare with me. thanks Pat great site to by the way.. love it

I looked for a while to find the proper aux gas tank set up for the 520 but could not come across one so... I had this tank laying around so I fabricated a stand out of some 1/8 angle iron and hung it on the back. The tank came with an Economy parts tractor and had several coats of paint on it. I did not want to go crazy painting it with the IR Red because then I would have needed to do bodywork on it. Gave it a quick hand sanding then painted it with semi gloss black and a brush. I just need to buy a 1/8 barbed nipple and connect the fuel line and add gas. Now I do not have to fill up every time i mow the grass with this thirsty Onan 20hp !!

found a $25 simplicity tractor snow blower on craigslist. went to go pick it up and guy let me look around the old cattle barn and i found this sickle bar laying there . told me it came on his 552 he has. seems to be in decent shape and looks to be all there but missing the swath bar . need to change one of the flange bearings and the belt , then going to mount it on my 877 and try it out. I may do a possible trade if someone has a simplicity sickle bar or simplicity front mount weed cutter. Is this round bar in the correct spot ?

These are a few of the photos my brother Lane took today at Scott Mehlberg's Meet and Great. A great time was held by all! This was the third year we went and the biggest crowd and mix of tractors to date. I hope those that could not attend enjoy some of the photos. A special treat for those attending was the participation my members of Cecil Pond's Family that Scott Mehlburg recognized. Some plowing photos: Martin Howard's recently completed 1057 for his son Kent:

I recently found an old round hood on Craiglist. Looks like to be either a Suburban or Rj that does not have the original engine and has a hole in the hood. Any ideas on to what model it is and maybe the year? What is it worth? Thanks!

Small air cooled engines used on power equipment should always use the governor if so equipped. They are mechanically designed for a top RPM, (usually between 3500-4000 RPM), and as you mention they will keep the engine speed steady under varying loads. Many people bypass engine governors for various reasons- the springs break and they are too cheap to replace them, they can't figure out how to adjust the governor linkages and don't want to read a manual, they think bypassing it will get them more power (it will, at the great expense of engine life), or they replace governor linkages or carbs with different parts and end up with a mess that can't adjust. There used to be this old dirty idiot who lived behind my parents house who had a pile of a governor-less Cub 108 he would attempt to mow with. He would start this thing up to a cloud of oil smoke, and it would wind up to about 6000 RPM. He would then fire up the mower to the nice sound of grinding spindle bearings and belt smoke. Every time he hit one patch of grass the engine would slow to just about a stall, backfire loudly through the exhaust, then he would stop and let it wind up again and keep repeating the process. It was annoying and amusing to watch all at the same time -Mark-

I often wonder what the "worth" is, why? The worth is what you think it is. My Horses, hobby, friends. No dollar sign on 'em. The Herd is family.

RJ58 or 59 they both look the same the only way to tell them apart is if it still has the tag. I would probably go $300 on it the hood looks good besides the hole and that would be an easy repair. I had a little brain fart for a second....the hole in the hood does not need to be repaired since it should have a fuel tank neck coming up through it. Engine is not original but the originals are easy to find.

You have the tractors condition as a tool to negotiate a better price. In the shape its in with the engine partially apart, its rusty appearance and some missing parts. The pic is kinda dark and blurry so its hard to get a real good read on its shape. I wouldn't spend much time or money trying to get that motor going. In my opinion if you don't have much experience working on these it would be best to close your eyes and walk away from this one if you can't get it for 75 bucks. JMHO.

I use my cart at shows to haul goodies around. I coated the inside with the spray on bed liner. Not a factory look but functional.
