7 pointsWe have an Apple Festival each fall in my home town, and when I asked a friend of mine who is the Apple Festival President who this years entertainment was and he Replied The Kentucky Headhunters, I just about fell out of my chair. Not only am I a fan, but also if you are a long time subscriber to LAGC(T) you will know that the drummer Fred Young is a Lawn and Garden Collector ant Enthusiast, and LAGC did a feature on him in Jan/Feb 2009. Well Knowing that they would be performing Friday night, I contacted their buisness office and asked in my message if Fred would call me, and asked if he would like to see my Wheel Horse Collection while he was in town. I recieved a call back from Fred's Brother Richard Young, and he gave me Fred's E-Mail, and said that would be the best way to contact him. We made connection by E-Mail and he said he would call Friday afternoon when he was Awake. (they left friday morn from KY at 12:00 a.m Musicians sleep durring the day as they perform at night). Fred gave me a call at 3:00 pm, and we hooked up at 3:30 and I went to their Bus and Met Fred and the band his brother Richard Young, Rhythm Guitar, Doug Phelps Base & lead singer, And their cousin Greg Martin Lead Guitar. Fred showed me pictures of all his tractors and home. After that we walked to my house (which is actually about 400 yards from their Bus). We then hung out at my Horse Stable for about 3 hours and had a great time. I showed him my Stable, My collection and my hauler. Fred is a wondeful person, and really loves tractors. We talked about everything from A to Z and he was really Taken by the New Snow Chucker, and he even gave me some painting tips. Those 3 hours flew by in a blink of an eYe. I gave him a few WH Goodies A few Jars of Apple Juice, and MJ set him and the band up with some of Her Famous Baked Goods. Around 9:00 pm we watched them perform and they brought down the house. After their show, MJ I and my granddaughter Henny hung out with the band at their Bus, and Fred had their PR guy give us Hats T Shirts and the band signed them and then he gave Henny a set of signed Drum Sticks! You talk about a wondeful afternoon and evening, I had the best time of my life. It just goes to show you, Ya meet alot of great guys in this hobby. Fred has invited me and MJ to his place to see his collection from what I have seen by pictures he has a heck of a collection 30 cubs, Wheel Horses, a Shaw Du All, Bollens and many many more Looks like that will be a nice Road Trip. Here are some pics of his visit. Cheers ~Duke Below is a link to one of their Videos Â

2 pointsFinally had some time today after tidying up around my parents property to sit down and start assembling the 500 Special with my 3 year old son. He has been waiting pretty patiently for only being 3. What was supposed to be a 2 week turn around time with the blaster and powder coater.......actually turned in to 6 1/2 weeks. Once we finally were able to go and pick it up some of it needed to be redone. Thankfully that didn't take as long. This will mainly be a weekend project for us, dad is actually helping out as well so we can make it a 3 generation tractor for him to enjoy. The little guy usually goes to bed fairly early and gets up early so most evenings are out of the question since we have a 20 minute drive just to get over to it. We worked on it together for a couple of hours tonight before my wife came and picked him up. I guess the little guy couldn't stop talking about it all the way home. I am going to work on getting pictures off the camera and show the two of us in action. But I needed to grab a quick picture of how we left it tonight with my cell phone. Not the best quality but it does give you an idea. Hoping to have this pretty much put together minus the motor for the show on Saturday.

2 pointsMartin - I'm a newbie of the first degree - just picked up a 1100 Special this morning! I just wanted to thank you for your posting of this rebuild - it was by far one of the most helpful things I've ever seen and helped get me over the jitters of having to tinker with my machine. I'm far from doing anything from the scale of your project or others on here but you helped make me realize that it can be done. So thanks again and my compliments on your beautiful 1054!!

1 pointHey guys well I was told about this yesterday by someone on the site. Once I saw how much we had we just had to look at it. My dad purchased all of this stuff. There are about 22 tractors I belive and a bunch of nos parts! Make sure to see the pic of inside of the trailer. That is a 30 ft enclosed trailer and you could not fit one more thing in there. Not to mention there are 8 more tractors we are going to have to make another trip for!. There are 3 lawn rangers, 3 rj35's, .a ton of suburbans, and a couple round hoods, a commando 8 and a a800 ranger. We will probably be holding on to most of the suburbans and rj stuff and be selling the newer tractors There is a stack of mower decks we have to go and get too. Here are some pics. Can't wait to get home and unload it all and see everthing we got! ~Jake I have a few more pics I'll try uploading photobucket doesn't seem to like me LOL

1 pointOK fellas, I could not resist doing this....................

1 point551 Rusty but still fairly straight...No engine or belt gaurd, holey deck and rotten tires.....

1 pointMany people donot know this but NAPA has a wide variety of Small Engine parts available. You can go to your local Napa Auto Parts store and they will give you a lawn and garden catalog. They have a section on briggs, tecumseh, kohler and others. I ordered an ignition coil for a K-90 engine at 9:00 a.m and they had the coil by 3:00 p.m. and I picked it up after work. They have carbs, rebuild kits, points condensors, coils, piston rings and other parts you may need. You can also sign up for a discount card and get some off the list price. This may just give you another option in your repairs! Duke

1 pointI picked up a Lawn Ranger today, must say i know nothing about the model, but it sure is small!! LOL... Good for garage space i guess!!! Runs 1/2 way decent, little rusty but not to bad, new battery and new rear tires. The electric start is a button though, is this normal? Model 1-2631 Sorry for the bad pics, picked it up after dark and it was raining.

1 pointI purchased a 520H with 324 hours on it from a neighbor which is in very good shape. I did a tune up,changed fluids, belts and had to replace the voltage rectifier. Everything works great and it has few signs of use. However I do not need it as my lawn is only 1/3 acre and i already have a Cub Cadet (old school). The 520 has a 48" deck. I think the year is around 1996. Question is how much should I be asking for the mower? I don't won't to ask too much but i don't won't to get taken advantage of either, what would be a fair price? Thanks Barry.

1 pointI just got a C-101 found in a garage in PA that has been sitting for 19+ years. Heck, I think it still has the original tires on it. When I got it home I went to cleaning and working on it in my spare time, the 10HP Kohler runs perfect. The smell of old varnished up gas is still lingering in my shop. However, I need some information please. I have been searching for what bearings part numbers and what not are needed to rebuild the PTO. The clutch is good, just the outer bearing is shot. I went to my local lawn and garden center and they pulled out their books and stood there scouring them and scratching their heads like a monkey looking at math problems for 30 min before telling me to check the internet. So here I am.

1 pointOK, trying to make good on my promise to give you guys some pics of my 417 now that I know how to do this. This was a one owner machine when I bought it back in Febuary or March. The PO wife sold it to me from her husbands estate. It has sat for six years in the garage. I gave it a good going over including all new belts, and an upgrade on the mowing deck. It came with a 42incher, and I changed it to a 48inch. It runs good and gets the job done, but my trusty old 312-8 will always be the favorite. Van

1 pointHey, how did you clean up that photo and enlarge? Thank you! Yes, thinking of starting on it maybe this week. Getting to many ideas from this site, not sure if thats good or bad LOL!
-
1 pointWow! what a day! 11 hrs total driving time. Just got back from unloading it all. Get to do it again in a week or two but it will be a lighter load and take alot less time. Here's the ultimate find going through some of the nos parts. I am going to go through them all after school tomorrow and see what I have. This is a nos. not a repro NOS belt guard for a 551. I don't know if there's another one that is nos in the country but I could be wrong. Jake here's a shot of the belt guard and the barn after we unloaded it all. Keep in mind there is still 8 more tractors in ohio and we took 3 of the rj's home!

1 pointThanks everyone and a BIG Thanks to Perry!!! I'm going to join the forum and ask them the same questions.... I did talk to a dealer and he was telling me that the steel will retain too much heat and will destroy the stove... I'm confused as ever..... but I will figure it out. That wood stove forum looks very promising. I will update soon... Tony

1 pointI buy the old style K series kit Kohler brand off ebay, they are $8 and change plus shipping, I buy 10 kits at a time and shipping is cut way way back so the savings is better, and I have kits on hand 99% of the time I use 10 to 15 kits year on tractors I buy, or want to sell, it's nice having them on hand, I know most of you would never use that many kits in a life time, but I do and saving a few $$ helps, again as I have said I always use Kohler brand kits.

1 pointMartin, That dash picture has to be one of the best looking tractors that I've come across. Is there any more of it on the Forun?
-
1 pointThanks for the welcome Guys, Mine looks more like the second one, the 69 commando. However, the carb side looks slightly different. I got a call that the starter is finished being rebuilt, as soon as I get it reinstalled I'll pull it out in the sun for pics. Thanks.
-
1 pointThanks for all the comments guys! It really helps me to keep the momentum while putting the long hours into a project. I have been working on this tractor for 6 weeks now at least a few hours a day with exception of work days. Some days were over 10 to 12 hours. In the end when you see the finished product it makes the hours worth the effort. Not to mentioned it was at it's first show yesterday and was a big hit. My kids kept fighting over who was going to take it for a ride. I should have brought an hour glass and used that as a mediator!

1 pointHere in Central New York that machine, NEXT SPRING, could bring $2000 - $2500. If you need to sell NOW, I'd be hesitant to take less than $1800.

1 pointGotta defend my Tecy powered 1974 C-120. She's been mowin & blowin & plowin with no complaints since I bought her 15 years ago.
-
1 pointAll that time that tractor sat waiting patiently for you to rescue it...nice score there.
-
1 pointPull the clutch off once or twice a year and wipe a film of grease on the inner bearing. Just enough to coat it. You shouldn't have any problems with it.
-
1 pointI propose the necks are like sickle bar attachments for those hard to reach spots!
-
1 pointThe outer bearing 109842 is very common. You should only have to pay about $3 or $4 for it. The inner needle bearing 106796 is noted as no longer available from Toro, but I bought 3 of them on eBay last year for $15.00 each. I will try to find the generic number for you later this morning. I just retrieved a bearing from the shed and it is an INA bearing, part number SCE 2420.
-
1 pointIf your looking for just the outer PTO bearing, the part # is 109842. The part is available from a Toro dealer. I don't know what the actual bearing number is. That is just the number Toro uses. Press the bearing out and look for numbers on the bearing and you should be able to go to NAPA or any bearing shop and get it for a lot less than Toro will charge. Someone else may chime in here that knows what the actual number is. It is a common bearing to replace.

1 pointwell, just got home, this was a big show, tractors big and small, lots and lots of stuff to do for the whole family, this is one show the kids would never be bored at....... we had a great time. spent a wonderful day talking wheelhorse with the ralph brothers, lane and david and denny clarke........ i didnt spend alot of time taking pics, too busy lazing around......... heres what i got though...... click on the pics to make them bigger. whats that you got there round your neck, david? the featured tractor next year is wheelhorse, other than all of us, there was only two other wheelhorses there. it would be great to have a real big redsquare showing next year, this one should be close to quite a few members on here.......

1 pointsounds like it has been changed to mechanical 6/8 speed at some stage and no longer has the hydro transmission. you have 2 scenarios here, one i mentioned above, you have a 1076 that has had the hydro swapped out for a 6/8 speed( i say 6/8 speed because it could be either one or the other with the two levers) or two, you dont have a 1076 at all. parts with the decals could have been swapped from a 1076 at some stage. do you have the id tag still riveted to the hoodstand. it would be just under the dash.... what model does it have on it? thats not set in stone either, because just about anything is interchangeable on these models and if it has been changed to mechanical trans then the hoodstand may have been changed too. thats why pics are a good thing, im sure some of us can set you straight..... i think that maybe scenario 2 is more the case here, that would have been way less work...... heres where the tag on those models should be.....
