1 pointI have a bunch of tires I need to mount, etc. so I thought I would spring for one of these mini tire changers at HF http://www.harborfre...nger-34552.html I know you can use screwdrivers, pry bars, hammers or whatever, but I got this on sale for $33 with coupon so I thought what the heck . . . I'm a tool guy. Started out with these two front tires on my lawn non-WH tractor. They both had leaks and needed filled every few days. If I have to go to the work of dismounting, I'm not screwing with a tubes when the tire itself is worn out anyway. Dismounting was a breeze and both tires were off no time flat Bead breaker works great. I mounted the whole thing on a bench and the top of the mounter is removable. Fix-A-Flat worked good for a year or two, but I would not recommend it because it gums up your rims and is a pain to clean off. I got these tires from eTires.com for $15 each. It's a non-WH turf only tractor, so durability/quality/etc were not a concern. Their shipping method is very simple, which I guess offsets the cost. The down side is they are hard to get re-spread for the bead to seat. At first I thought this would work good after watching YouTube videos (straps didn't do anything - Maybe if the tire was in a regular shape) MOV06359.MPG Maybe I needed more starting fluid or more ball$ (or perhaps God did not want me to die in a furious garage fire at the tender age of 47 before Olde Tyme Days) . . . so I decided to give them a bug hug while pushing air in with the valve stem core removed and eventually got them seated. After researching several forums I found that 303 Protectant (or the Turtle Wax version) was an excellent lube for various reasons. If your rim is clean you will not need tubes for the same reasons your car does not need tubes. CLEAN rim seat+good lube=leak free seal. Check it with water when done to make sure there are no bubbles. If so, beat the tire with a large poly or rubber hammer near the rim a few times. That may do it. If not, break the seat/CLEAN/lube/re-seat. Dip the whole works in a tub of water and make sure there are no leaks, Bottom line is for a little money if you want another tool to play with, it works pretty good. I think there is a YouTube video showing it's use too. I saw some reviews about bending the mounting bar, but I think if you have enough lube and are using it for it's intended application in the manner it's supposed to be used it will work. Hope this was helpful. Before you ask, if you have rim that is large enough to be placed on a regular garage tire machine . . . don't use this. I take mine to a local garage and have the tires on/off in minutes for few bucks (or free if you have a friend) :orcs-cheers:

1 pointWhile out tracking down some CL 702 parts this morning, I stumbled upon an early morning gathering of some big ol' farm tractors nearby in Montgomery NY. Unbeknownst to me, this gathering was for the 23rd annual General Montgomery Day tractor parade, only 20 minutes from by back door. I say to myself...humm, better check this out real quick. Took a quick walk around to discover...yep, not even one in attendance there. So here it is, eleven this morning, and the parade starts at noon. I've got just enough time to fly home, pick up the wife, load a tractor, and return to be the only little red horse represented in the parade. Man, what a show...I bet, at least 150 to 200 farm tractors took part, and mine was the littlest guy out there. Lots of love shown for my little 653 today, looked so cool out tooling around town with all the big guys. Easily an hours worth of seat time riding around town in the parade...who knew? If you're in this area, this is a great little show not to miss, wouldn't it be great to see our tractors turn out en masse next year...just a 20 minute ride to exit 5, west on Rt 84, past the Newburg Beacon bridge. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aIC6X3RjBNE&feature=youtu.be

1 pointGrandson arrived yesterday, 1st stop was the barn ground level. He had to check on the Horses'. Disappointed 'cause he doesn't drive.........yet. Today, he gets the chore list. Which I don't understand, he'll love. Grandson's Weekend Chores 1) Blow and/or vacuum all grass clippings off the Horses' frames and tractor decks; 2) Wash the Horses; 3) Dry the Horseys'; 4) Scrub brush the front and rear Horseys' tires; 5) Check the Horses' tire air pressures (adjust as required); 6) Clean the Horses' tail and head lights (be sure we have spare bulbs); 7) Go to Tractor Supply and look, "We might need one of these Pop-pop!" 8) With Pop-pop check the Wheel Horses' oil and gas; 9) Remove and clean the Wheel Horses' Kohler air cleaners. The list goes on, the grandson says, "Wheel Horses' need to be in ready! Pop-pop, the grass needs cuttin' again." And who says todays generation is lazy? Annual maintenance is weekly with this kid! **Note** At Tractor Supply he picked up an implement and accessory catalog, to read.

1 pointWell, been working so much I got my days all screwed up. I worked last night and had today off and go in tomorrow for my 24 hour shift. I was going to spend the day with the kids but they were off with their friends, then the wife took all of them to our beach for the afternoon. That gave me about 10 hours to mow the lawn, continue working on my tractor lift and the Ranger. The recoil assembly actually showed up today in the mail. I just ordered it on Thursday afternoon! Installed that and soldered up the 1" copper fittings so I can try out the stack. I went with the longer pipe figuring I can always cut it down later. I hear what you guys are saying about moving the stack forward but we drove it around today and there was no problem with the distance from the operator or the fumes. I can always change it later. After everything was installed I rolled it outside and figured I give the pull start a try. Turned on the fuel, set the throttle lever and yanked. She immediately fired up on the first pull. I have to find a small muffler style clamp to tighten the copper fitting onto the muffler nipple. It's just a snug fit for the time being. I'll order that rubber edging along with the clamp from McMaster Carr tomorrow. Hopefully Monday I will repaint what needs it and finish up a few things like hiding the fuel line and installing the wiring for the battery. Here are some shots after todays work:
