Found this while looking for a set of rear 753 tires today. A complete HY-3 kit for 1963 753 or 653. Everything can with the kit all the brackets brand new lines, brand new wheel horse belts. Even have the hard to come by belt cover. To top it all off 1.5 quarts of sealed hydraulic fluid produced by wheel horse with the discontinued part number on the tin. Have seen a couple used ones sell for some decent money, this would be a perfect addition to my 753 but not sure if I can void the NOS status!! Thoughts and opinions?

Every time I greased my front spindles the grease always works it's way back up and no matter how much I wiped it off it still shows up after a little use. So I started thinking of making some kind of cover. I came up with the idea of drilling a hole and tapping it (1/4-20) in the top of the spindles and bolting on some kind of cover. I made a crude little fixture to drill the spindles. Not pretty but at least it centered the drill and kept it straight while hand drilling. I found these stainless steel 'sink stoppers' at Menard's and they looked like they would do the trick after I cut the top off of them and drilled a hole in the center. I was able to cut the tops off with my Dremel tool with a little cut-off wheel. I also picked up (at Menards) some ¼-20 chrome bolts, chrome washers and chrome lock washers. I drilled the ¼â€ hole in the stainless tops using my lathe before I cut the tops off. (that way it put the hole in the center. The covers are just big enough diameter that they do not rub on the cast iron axle when turning the wheels. I thought I would share my information in case there was anybody who would like to do the same. And NO, I do not have too much time on my hands, just a little off in the head.

Finally got a pull this year on it and am very pleased to say I cleaned house in my class! The pull was saturday morning and Friday night I was rewelding a steering pivot and Saturday morning had to clean the points and replace the condenser as they went bad that morning! Played with the governor and actually got it working properly and it was a blast! I can't believe the power it made with governor set up right! Guessed on weight placement and with 30lbs up front it was just enough to keep from shooting the stars. I think I'm going to put a little bigger pulley on the engine... Also aired down the tires quite a bit and you can see from pics they are wrinkling a bit. I think If I get my wheel speed up a little bit and a little more weight on the front it will be great! The pull class had 7 full pulls and I was one of them. Did a pull off and got down to 5 with me still in it. Did a pull off-pull off and got down to 3 and then I cleaned house with a 13ft lead and a couple feet shy of a full pull again! The final pull had the wheels off the ground and I had to use my butt to get the thing back straight down the track! Here's pics.

For those who read my earlier post about the restoration and up coming movie and relaunch of this beautiful piece of marine racing history. Here's a video of a test run of the 4000 hp Rolls Royce Griffin V12 after rebuild before it returned to Canada.

I just replaced the oil in the transmission a few months back in my '78 C-121 and now I'm realizing that I need to replace the axle seals. Do I have to drain the oil prior to removing these axle seals or is the level below the axles? thanks, David

Hey guys - new to the forums here. I purchased my first WHeel Horse new back in 2000 - a 314 Classic gear slammer. Just sold that one to help finance my new aquisition - a nice 520H with the Onan twin, with only 380 hours on it. Has a 48" deck and I got the factory wheel weights with it. The sellers were "thoughtful" enough to top off the battery and not tell me the voltage regulator was smoked. I replaced that, the fuses (after I plugged in the wire they hid, it wiped out the fuses for the charging system), all fluid and all filters, spark plugs, 1 sloppy tie rod end, both front tires, etc. Motor runs great. For whatever reason, the folks I got it from had it idling at over 2000 rpm. I adjusted the governor/low idle screw down to 1100 warm. It idles and runs super, BUT the exhaust smells like its running a bit rich. I mowed the lawn Friday (2.75 acres) and it took more than a tank of gas so there seems to be a definite carb issue. It's using a lot of gas - here's my questions: 1. What type of carb maintenance should I be performing at this stage? I haven't tried any carb cleaner or fuel treatment yet, and I have some concerns about buildup due to cruddy ethanol gasoline. 2. Where can I get a carb kit if I need one? The local dealer couldn't even tell me what comes in the kit when I gave him the Toro # I got from the Toro site that had the Parts Manual. 3. I know the Onan twin is a good motor from what I've read, but also comes with some concerns. Given that this seems to be an authentic low-hours motor, what maintenance issues should I look for? Is it too early to worry about valve lash if I don't really have issues with hard starting or fuel burping out of the carb? Thanks for the help - I've been a big fan of Wheel Horse fro 12+ years and it was a shock to me when they finally stopped making them altogether. Brian

http://www.pioneerpowershow.com/ I think it is time to post about this great show in Minnesota, LeSueur. Always a good time...and yes, we are planning on staying an extra day to play golf on Monday. If someone wants to ride around the golf course, but not play, I am looking for a good caddy. WHO'S YOUR CADDY?? :)

I just never aquired the ability to work with gloves...can't feel things with gloves....I have a hard enough time working on things and hanging onto tools.....gloves just compound the problem. I know some maintenance guys and mechanics that wear the latex type rubber gloves all the time....Guess their women can't take the rough hands!

Okay, I've got to weigh in here, even though I'm from the West coast and currently live in upstate New York. I'm surrounded at work by colleagues who went to Nebraska, Iowa, Ohio State (oops, sorry, THE Ohio State), and Penn State (good riddance). But. . . . my parents went to Purdue and my grandparents went to Wisconsin. So, go Boilermakers and Badgers! Jeff

One day in an elementary school in Ann Arbor Michigan, a teacher asks her class if the Michigan Wolverines are their favorite football team. The whole class says yes except for Little Jimmy. The teacher asks, "What's your favorite football team Jimmy?" Little Jimmy says, "The Ohio State Buckeyes." The teacher asks, "Well, why is that?" Little Jimmy says, "Well, my dad is a Buckeye fan, my mom is a Buckeye fan, I guess that makes me a Buckeye fan." The teacher angered by his reply says, "If your dad was a moron and your mom was an idiot what would that make you?" Little Jimmy says, "Well, I guess that would make me a Michigan fan."
