5 pointsYou know there are a lot of different ways to look at this and there is no right or wrong. In years past I would have to say don't use it. Now I have a little different thought on that now do to something I heard and 89 year old woman say once. She was talking about some good china she had. She pointed to it and said there it sits waiting for that one special occasion. Well she said her I am 89 years old and was always afraid to use it waiting for the right time. Now the time has came and went. My time on this earth is short and I have miss my chance to enjoy and show off my china. She kept going on but I think you get the picture here. If not now, when? You can't take it with you. Enjoy it while you can. If you get enjoyment from just going out in the shop, barn or garage or whatever and looking at it then great. But if you keep wishing you could pull it but are afraid to then like the old lady you will miss out. Just my .02 worth. Can't remember when and where I heard this but it's kinda stuck with me.

2 pointsI consider NOS (New Old Stock) still in the box, once out of the box and assembled, installed or started, well its used, no matter what. This unit has been out for some time. John, use it for speical times like this and enjoy it.

Been a bit busy whit the 551.. lol...so i have get some work done on it.. have e tanked/ sandblast all the parts. and had Fero bet on all the parts, have done a some welding at the frame it had some realy bad craks on the tranny plate/frame. And i have also cut the the Hoodstand and weldet it back together. Have also flushed the tranny whit diesel to clean it up innside before i take it apart, ahh cant remember all i have done.. it's a lot.. that has been done last 3-4 days.. have about 50 hrs on it to now..ill guess.. well here are some pict of the work that has been done.. the hood was bad in the front it need some body work so ill started.. And after some work it went a bit better Then it went back in the etank to get the front end clean .. then i took the frame out to do some work on that.. need to cut of the pice to the hood stand and weld a new one to the frame then after some cleaning it went out like that i just feelt for working so i took some more parts to LOL and i rust primed all the parts whit ferobet.... and then i took the bolt to the hitch out of the tranny.. easy job Rooster.. and then i tok the welding on the frame plate to the tranny And i weldet the footrest bar to the frame it was off the frame when i got it And yesterday i put the tractor together to see if ill miss some parts to it.. and i did ..LOL so here are some more pict of that.. im think im going to epoxy prime almost the hole tractor on tuesday this week. and i did some welding to the hood to day. And i also fired the engine up to day.. and WOW it runs great.... this is a vid of the engine running. So thanks for whatching

1 pointMy Grandson came over last weekend and we fired up his 1962 Bolens 600 and did some work on it too. Then we took it and my 875 out in the woods for some Papaw time! We thrashed them around for a while and then his recently added 1964 Bolens hood rubbed against the generator pulley and sparks went flying so he shut it off pretty quickly! He was trained on safety issues from me at an early age. Then I backed up out of the creek bed and he pointed to my rear tire and it had popped off the rim and was toast! So I limped it back to the garage and hopped on my trusty mule tractor, a 704 and went back out to tow him back up to the garage for repairs! All in all a good day with my boy, errr, young man! We tore up both of our thrasher machines! Wahooooo! Keith

1 pointTo me the memories and pictures for you your better half and the grand daughter trump any NOS value by 10 fold. it's not trashing it by filling with rocks or hauling firewood when you take the grand daughter for rides, it's adding value that having it hang on a wall could never give. It's giving your grand daughter memories and times with you sharing your passion, it's doing the same for your better half. The pictures will be with your grand daughter forever and that means the trailer will be too long after this thing we call NOS wears off. I think that value outweighs any of they others by so far it's not a hard choice if it were me. But that's me and everyone has to make those choices for themselves. I love these machines but I think we get carried away here on them to be honest.

1 pointLike has been said, It is your decision to live with.....Once it has been used' ITS USED! Once a blade or plow hit the dirt, a mower cuts a blade of grass, or a thrower throws snow...its not New any more! So if it is important to you that it stay new...and you have other trailers that will pull the kids just fine..they will giggle just as loud in a used trailer ride as in the new one! If it were me, I'd put the kid in it and hand her a hammer..... :ychain:

1 pointIf it was a NOS tractor, I could see not using it, but it is a trailer. You could use one of your other 4 wheeled wagons and leave the NOS trailer hanging on the wall. :) You've got to ask yourself one question..."Do I feel lucky" Well...?

1 pointThe tank valve has a screen on it that is stopping up. replace it for about 14.00 should fix your problem. Had a 520H that did the same thing, if for some reason that doesn't do it. Blow out your fuel lines from the tank to the filter (replace) and clean the carburator bowl... It's just starving for fuel. My .02 cents

1 pointMake sure the gas cap vent is not plugged or that it really does have a vent. Sounds like your running long enough to create a vacuum in the tank, then releasing it when you remove the cap. Russ

1 pointIf the grand daughter can't at least go for a ride in it then to me it is a waste to even have it. If you don't go hauling rocks and dirt with it I think the NOS status is safe.

1 pointthats the same manual as whats in the file section of the forum under 1054. the 1054 is similar but has a few differences. probably the biggest would be the steering box. i will upload the 953 manuals i have into the files section, its much more comprehensive than the temporary 1054 manual that i uploaded previously (Tractor 1964 1054 #A-7136.pdf) heres the link to them....

1 pointAll: Well, yesterday I drove out to pick up the Speedex tractor Model 1632. Got the unit for $400 and on the way home, I found a small trailer that I bought for $50. Had to move the tractor forward on the car hauler to squeeze the small trailer on, but since I only had to drive about 4 miles with both purchases, I didn't strap down either one or readjust the tractor over the axles. Got a ton of stares as I rode throught town. I attached some pics of the Speedex next to my 1067. Holy cow, I didn't realize the size difference. The Speedex has a 16 hp B&S cast iron motor, a drive system consisting of v-belts; a T-92 tranny; chain to sprocket and final gear drive. All of this uses a "clutch" where the entire engine moves on the frame to provide tension on the initial drive belts. Got some work to do to sort out the carb, hydraulics and electrical, but since I normally do this on new units anyway, it gives me a chance to find everything that need going over. My apologies for taking this WH forum a little off track, but I like the idea I have an example of each of the two Pond Brothers' inventions. I entered a link that gives some history on how the two brothers took a different track on tractors. And since the Speedex was made in my wife's home town of Ravenna Ohio (her neighbor worked at Speedex coming out of high school), I used this connection to help her agree that my decision to park this tractor in the garage versus her car, was the right one. 1 pointwell im still finishing up a few more things on the tractor. went to visit terry (vinylguy) this morning so we could work on some of the oddball decals i wanted. he didnt have a voltage regulator decal so we worked on getting one of them off a sample cover i had...... also we finished up the starter generator id tag. i wanted this on brushed aluminum sheet so i could just apply it to the generator without messing around with rivets and cleaning up the original plate etc. also wanted the gear shift cover to have something different on there than the red so we did a brushed aluminum decal with a caution decal on it, sort of the 'hydro' cover look without the hydro...... the battery needed to have a more 'period' look to it instead of the napa decal on it. so we made up a 1967 delco battery one for it. i know its not a delco battery and its definitely not from 1967, but i managed to find a delco battery decal from the 1967-1969 gm models, and we worked with that. it had to be reduced in size and the fonts cleaned up a bit first, but i think it will look great on the battery in its spot on the tractor. im getting the caution decal on the gear shift plate right now and soon as its dry, and trimmed i will snap a pic of it installed, same for the others. but for now heres them all together, thanks terry .....
