A brief rant. If you are working on a sundstrand hydro and have a tube if silicone gasket maker...put it down and back away. If you are too lazy and or cheap to make or buy a proper gasket at least don't screw up the hydro for the next owner. If you are using silicone it will not last long and you will be selling it or parting it out. Silicone has no place in a hydro. i have been trying to make a working system out of 2 pumps and 3-4 motors. Most of them show evidence of silicone and it is stuck ion the darnedest place. From now on for me if a hydro unit shows any external signs of silicone it is a parts value only unit. No professional would use silicone and if the person doing the work did use it I question the overall quality of his work. Rant over!!.

Not too many people mow their grass this way. Yes, the neighbors were staring and my wife was making fun of me, but I was having a blast. Thanks Bob R., Stephen & Pat!

While I haven't played with any of the different brands newer versions I have played quite a bit with their older ones. I have finally come to the same conclusion as you Will. It is much easier to work on the Horse's and much easier to collect one brand. Here is something that is MOST important to me, the fellowship just isn't their with any of the other brands like it is here with the Wheel Horse's. This is bar none the best forum and the best group of guys.

My name is Marc. I heard of this site from Rooster, whom I race mowers with. I have heard all sorts of stories from him about this site. I am a small engine repair guy, and was looking for some Kohler parts, and did a search, and I found a link to what I needed, and the link was based out of here. Even though I am not an avid tractor fan, and more along the lines of a lawn mower racing fanatic. I saw the potential of learning about old engines from this site. Plus my buddy Rooster is over here too. Who knows, I like the looks of some of the Wheel Horse tin, I may make a racer out of one. I have posted a pic of my mower, and here is a video of her in action.

Pete, are the tractor pics you posted taken at your place? They almost look like they are at the WH Show in Pa. with the red/white buildings and the dandelion's in the gravel. Maybe I'm just having "WH Show Fever" and am seeing the show grounds everywhere I look. Just the other day I was peeling a potato and thought it looked like a round hood................ . I have been sorely dissapointed in myself for not plunging into the sundstrand repair sooner. How many times can I waste a Saturday night reading every page in the manual? What I found was that most of the parts are available, sitting on a shelf through Sundstrand if you can just get the cross reference #'s to the wheel horse part number!I still haven't been able to get it but I found the problem parts at my local Home Central of all place! This op Electro 7255 smokes the tires Now!I desperately need the thirty-sum model number for the Sundstrand 90-2046

Sorry Mr airplanes, I made a mistake in my math..I'm not sure why I put 2/3 when my math showed me .375 which would be 3/8. Thank you for climbing down off your cross and walking on water to belittle me and show me the error of my ways . I"m glad that I got to meet The Savior as I'm sure I'm going to meet the once I pass on from this world. I can now die happy!!!

Youre saying that you only have 1/4 of 1.5 acres which wold be about 2/3 of an acre of grass. . FAILING GRADE IN ARITHMETIC !!!!!! 1/4 of 1.5 acres is no where near 2/3 of an acre. Try 3/8 of an acre.

while this tractor is heavy duty, I now understand everyones warning about JD's, it takes 5x's longer to work on than a WH. what a pain, after this is gone, I am getting 1 nice WH. I am done trying other brands.

Found it....... I did create a PDF that I could upload but I don't want to unless it is OK with TT. It is really his content. David....about the paint.....man, there are so many options it makes a guy dizzy. Guys use Rustoleum Regal Red (I like the color of this), Valspar IH Red, there is a Krylon also some guys like...can't think of the name...maybe Cherry Red......some guys use real auto paint too. Try searching for it if others don't give you recommendations...... Welcome to the board...must have been looking around for a while if you saw something on the old forum.

Welcome to one of the most frustrating pleasures of Onan ownership, my 518 behaves like it every so often. I think mine must be very fussy about its fuel, I filter from the can into the tank, and change the inline twice yearly, yet it still goes hunting now and again. A squirt of carb cleaner settles it down...till the next time. From reading RS we aren't alone :hide:
