Hi Everyone, well after about 6 months of work the JD 60 is basically done. I am still debating whether or not to put a stack on it,if I do it will be like the one on the 401. Well Here are some pictures. Jake next to the 401

I don't care what make it is, you have to be given a tremendous amount of credit for the job you did. Now I am sure that you had a wee bit of help from Dad, but just the fact that a 12 year old is doing something other than sitting in front of a video game is awesome. Great job.

Picked up these 2 Briggs 6S's today at an antique outboard motor swap meet. The nice original one I have determined to be a 1950 by the S/N and the one painted gray has no ID plate so I have no clue what year it is. Didn't take much work to fire up the first one, just needed a carb pickup tube and jet cleaning to run, and I guess the gray one needs the same as the fuel tank smells like rotten gas, but it has decent compression and nice hot fire. Thanks to Ken B.'s brother Dave for the gray 6S! and the 1950 purring away (still need to find an air cleaner for it and make a new valve spring chamber cover gasket)

Well I know you have all seen this tractor but I just had to go get it. The guy did a really nice job with the whole tractor. Good job with the drive train, suspension and the steering. Hated to take this for the price but I do have plans for it already. Drives OK but the accelerator pedal needs some work. The brakes aren't working right now but I have years of brake experience with GM. Yes it has Chevy truck rear disc brakes. Here are a few more pictures.

Ah yes...I remember those days well. My son recieved for his 6th or 7th birthday a C-120 with a Briggs 5hp yank start. He rode that sucker everywhere till he was ready for something bigger then the Briggs came out and a Kohler 8hp electric start took its place so he could have a 42" snowplow. He's 17 now and drives a Chevy ! Mike..........

Good advice Bob. I'll do that. There are a couple of rods on ebay at the moment for a reasonable price. http://www.ebay.com/itm/200732975342?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649 I'll have them check the crank first to make sure that I can make -0.010 before I buy the parts. I checked the cylinders on the used block that I got off of ebay the other week. Surprise, surprise, the cylinders weren't even to their wear limit. I checked it five different times, multiple ways before I was satisfied with my data. I'll probably check it again a couple of more times to be sure. I'll probably pick up new pistons and rings too.

Well Martin, thats still what I see in the rearview, my four kids poking, teasing, and generally seeing how bad they can annoy one another. Craig I do like that rearview shot, I've seen that in my rearview plenty of times, just never took a pic. I'll see what I can do about that. Matt :flags-texas:

Boy Craig I wish Icould folow that advice. I wouldnt have an 18 auto with a dead hydro sitting in my yard for the last 5 months all torn apart and still not done. Gotta know when to hold em and know when to fold em....

I took a chance on one of these and it turned out to be a real good tractor. Sat outside all twisted up. The Tecumseh engine now runs good. Drivetrain is real tight. Usually I don't hear too many complaints from the hydrogear's on here like I do the piston drives.

Here's my "definitely not an expert" thought on this subject. As the pump or motor starts to wear over time the flow of the oil becomes inadequate for the proper cooling to take place. As the oil overheats and gets hotter/thinner the more the power loss occurs at the wear points causing less oil flow and more heat and on and on. If I am wrong at least it sounds good for now...... :)
