Craig. Its not locked down because its was not started to be a political opinion thread, shoving one members views down other members throat and such. Dont for one second think that the Admin/Mod team has not seen this thread, and that it is being watched carefully. The original poster was just talking about an experience he had with his son and not attempting to "sway" you or any other member here. Maybe you think we should lock down the thread about gas prices that you personally have posted in numerous times? Theres something in the rules about that. This forum is full of adults and we try to treat the members like adults and sometimes we (the Admins and Mods) will give a little leeway to a thread if it stays civil, such as this one and the gas price thread. Relax, enjoy the forum, and leave the policing to the Admins and Moderators. Mike...............

I didn't know where to put'em, I know this probably isn't the right place, but maybe somebody that knows more than me can put them where they belong. I really wanted the a-81 pic in the gallery of the year where it belongs. 1st is the little womans 1981 A-81 It starts, runs an looks as good as when it was new. 2nd is my sulky with spring loaded seat, JD 214 front wheels on a 1" axle, and a rack in back for a cooler to pull behind the 79 C-101 3rd is my C-101 cleaned up before I restored it Guess I'll hafta get a pic of my 101 since I restored it. I knew I forgot somethin'

This is the true definition of "barn fresh". It's very complete and very solid - just filthy. The hood is real nice with the exception of one fix near one of the side bolts, otherwise the front and top are straight. It seems to shift nice, has a nice belt guard and supposedly last ran in the fall. It should be interesting to see what it looks like after a bath. The plow and deck seem to be really nice also - again, just d-i-r-t-y!

Hello all, just picked this up today and wanted to show it off. Naturally the I.D. tag is missing and the engine is not original. Any ideas if it's a 58 or 59?? .....Thanks for any info!

I guess you haven't seen my original thread in introductions " hello from deep south Texas". Anyway when I got it about 6 years ago someone had already swaped in a K301 in the place of the 181. I rebiult it during my restoration, its now .010 over on the bore and it does run great. I tell ya with that 12hp and only a 36" deck, I can cut even tall grass without hardly any change in the rpm's. It sounds really good with the stack on it too. Music to my ears. Matt :flags-texas:

Well, the devil is in the details. I suppose you can file this one under "Helpful Things to Remember", or possibly under "Stupid Things People Do". Today I went out to my friends house to get the coil, etc. from the donor C-85, and while I was there I took some photos of the C-81 we picked up the same day we got the donor. Once armed with my backup parts and photos, I headed back to the B-80. As I was loosening the coil on my tractor and disconnecting things, I paused and thought "Hmmmmm....I wonder?" So I got out my trusty Droid and compared my setup with the photos I had taken. It's a funny thing....did you know that if you attach the points to the positive side of the coil and the ignition to the negative side, you'll get spark and intermittent ignition, but a tractor that won't run? I didn't either, but I do now! That's right...this whole ordeal was due to a couple of crossed wires, or what I like to call "operator error"! I have to tell you that although I'm really psyched that it's running now, in hindsight I feel pretty thick-headed! I looked at that coil a dozen times, but in my head it looked right and I missed it every time. (In my defense, so did everyone else who looked at it too!) Sooooo.....that mystery is officially solved. Now all I have to do is get the governor adjusted correctly (I'm reading a book on voodoo and black magic to help with this) and all will be right with the world once again. Many thanks again to everyone for all the help and suggestions! Now I'm off to pick up some chicken bones and goat's blood so I can get busy on that governor...

Yep thanks for the stens info, will be ordering tomorrow after the machine shop tells me what the oversize will be (pretty fair ridge at the top of the cylinder bore). I figure I have about a week to get new blades and spindle assemblies on the deck before the block comes back from reboring. I must admit I was a little surprised to see the connecting rod doesn't use shell bearings. Probably should mic the crank to make sure I don't have to go under on the con rod.

Finally first test with the front chute cover. It worked well in the heavy damp snow last week. Not real slushy so not sure it will cause more chute blockage with crappy shlush. But for the heavy wet snow when chute turned 30% I could see it forced more snow up the chute and not vertical with blow back. We got 6 inch wet snow March 1. This was a positive Mod for reduced blowback factor. Well worth the small effort to make one for $10. Wyatt

At the risk of being strung up from the nearest tree or banished from the forum, I'll only add that both of the "green tractors" I've had have much thicker steel in the decks than my Horses. That's among the very few props I'll give JD over WH, though! (Does that redeem me?) Duff

I have seen a 3 jaw puller break the pulley out at the edges. I made a simple puller out of a piece of angle with two holes in it. The angle goes against the crank shaft. Then use two of the four holes in the pulley & two bolts to pull it off. Just tighten each bolt a little at a time so it pulls straight.

I think if you want a working tractor, the Horse is the better way to go, given the simpleness of it, and availability of parts. But you sure did have yourself a nice Sears tractor that would have been fun to paint up pretty and mow with for a long, long time. Maybe it will come back to you one day.

its good to hear you got her figured out,if i were you when you have some time i would pull the tins from the engine(if thats correct for an onan)and make sure the fins on the motor are cleanmproper cooling seems to be a good thing to do with the onans and of coarse keep th oil good and clean

Well I cant help you with the deck, but it sounds like the carb just needs a good cleaning, I would say it probably has some trash in the jet, if it needs the choke to be on partially. And Matt

The chain should connect the T-bar (#27)under the tractor to the lift bell crank (#19). It is used on the deck instead of a solid link, which allows the deck to "float" over uneven terrain. The only other chain that would be on that tractor would be at the back under the fuel tank IF it's equipped with the rear lift assembly for use with a tiller or allied attachment with a clevis or slot hitch.
