I use a 50" grader blade with a 312-8. It has more than enough power. Our shared driveway is about a 1/2 mile. The snowplow is good for moving large amounts of fill. But doesn't compare for finish grading. I would recommend an 8 speed with manual lift and dial height knob for amazing results. Be sure to use the solid lift link as well. Good luck! Have fun!

A couple other things -- Thank you Charles (CRE1992) for the front weight! It definitely helps keep the front end from sliding: The plow in this picture is for sale (see the Classified section for more). Thanks!

I guess the issue of obsolescence will always be with us since we are all interested in products of the past! The ingenuity I've seen by some of the members of this site is nothing short of amazing. For me I am more of a user than a collector so the problem will become reliablity and the ability to repair quickly. For the collector it will be the hunt to find what they need. Kelly is right! Hopefully the discarded and unused products will be found by our salvors so they can be used again. Up here that is less likely to occur than in the US but it's the risk we take to enjoy our Pride of Ownership! :flags-canada:

Take a look-see at my post "Working the 520H" from a few days ago. I especially like the Kohler engines, though I have both the Kohler and Onans. There is also a grader blade, which I have one and am going to finish the work I started with my front blade. The snow blower works great too. Good luck with your purchase. The other Bill

I use my 416-8 and front blade to cut and push dirt in my backyard drainage ditch. I dont think it will have a problem with sand.

I don't care who wins. I am only watching the commercials this year. Don't like either team.

Well the blower idler sprockets, chain and drive gear can be had cheaper at TSC or Fastenal stores. And you will have to find guys like me for lots of the other stuff, to keep your machines and attachments going.

This one will definitely go to the FAQ section! This lift rod and flag are for my 1986 42" single-stage snowthrower for use on a long frame garden tractor. I have had this thrower mounted on a 1986 312A, 1990 416H, 1992 416-8, and a 1973 12 8 speed. Pre Attach-Matic tractors will need the tube length altered, as will the short and medium frame machines, but the "flag" is basically the same. This particular flag does not have the lift assist spring tab, but one could easily be added. (I use it on a 416 with hydraulic lift now, so it's not needed.) The lift tube is 1 1/4" O.D. X 3/4" I.D. by 42" long. (raw) The plate at the end of the tube is 3/8" X 2" strap steel, 6 1/2" long. (bent per photo at 3" from the end opposite the hole) The tube overlaps the plate by 2 3/4" and is welded on both sides. The centerline of the hole in the plate is roughly 44 3/4" from the end of the tube. The flag is constructed from one piece of 3/4" round X 11" long welded to a piece of 1/4" X 3" flat steel, 4" long. The end opposite the rod is 1 1/2" wide. (angle on front side toward tube) There is an offset bend per photo. The first bend is 2" from rod - second bend at 3". Clevis pin is 3/8" X 3/4".
