I'm pondering doing a little project and finding a good 8hp Kohler is the first step. It needs to be an electric start K-Series or a Magnum. I don't want something I'll need to work on so no smoke or goofy noises. Pretty much plug and play. Also a 2-3 hour drive from Knox, IN. Being on a tractor would be fine but not really a plus. :)

I have one here Bob.. A gray service motor off a 875 I went though. I Need to fit it with a working SG yet. and don't have a belt guard. Offshore carb and I did have it running on the bench. Ran great

That's a great candidate from a trusted source Jim. But I'd actually prefer it not to be a s/g model for what I'm doing. Before I even get to the $$ part I'll let this ad run a bit and see what comes up. There's a Magnum on a 308-8 near here I may call on Sunday but some red flags are popping up. Doesn't hurt to check it out though. This isn't the appropriate place to start a thread on the project so I'll do it in the right spot.

I have a great running complete 8 off of a B-80. but it's got a valve tick in it.

Bob did you save the plate that mounts the engine to the frame?

If I saved the plate I haven't found it yet. I do have the small block pto bracket. Still looking for the pto bearing race and engine pulley. :eusa-think:

I have that plate. I can send it to Indiana with Lane if you want it. If you find yours you can make a plant stand out of it! :)

I think I have that PTO race too but I'd have to look.

I appreciate that Mike. Gives me a good excuse to head over to Lanes place. That riser plate is one thing I'm pretty confident that I no longer have. It's just too big to hide from me. I did find the PTO bracket but the engine pulley and bearing race are still hiding. Up until yesterday evening I wasn't sure what I was going to do so I didn't get real serious about searching. Now it looks like I have a plan so I'll get to searching better. You'd think I'd remember where I put them. It's only been 40+ years.
