JohnHill 0 #1 Posted November 7, 2015 (edited) Hey fellas, new member here on the forum. I'm a garden tractor enthusiast and currently running a Case 446, so unfortunately I'm not a Wheel Horse owner (yet). But I've always thought Wheel Horses are cool, and I remember mowing with a very old Wheel Horse (don't know the model) as a kid. Sorry about this, but the reason I joined this forum is to hopefully get some help identifying an Onan B43M engine that came with a couple of Onan-powered Case tractors I recently acquired. Since the engine is red, I thought it might be from a Wheel Horse, so I did some internet searching and sure enough, this engine appears to be from a D160 Wheel Horse or some similar model. Can anyone confirm this? It has an electric PTO clutch that appears identical to the one I saw in the D160 parts catalog. It also came with a driveshaft that apparently is also for a Wheel Horse? I have no current use for the engine, so I'd like to sell it and recoup a little bit of my investment in the Case tractors I bought. The engine turns over and has compression.Any and all help/advice is appreciated! Edited November 7, 2015 by JohnHill
bmsgaffer 2,046 #2 Posted November 9, 2015 Hi! Sorry, I dont know much about the D series. I dont think that electric clutch is from a wheel horse though, as the wheel horses usually have double pulley clutches...Also, I have never seen a u-jointed drive shaft on a Horse, but I've been known to be wrong before!I will bump your post up to see if anyone has any other information, but you could also go ahead and list the engine in the classifieds (you must list a price though, just FYI).

gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,205 #4 Posted November 9, 2015 The 1979 and 1980 D-160's used that engine. Check these D&A files.1979http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/files/file/3436-tractor-1979-d-160-auto-da-tipl-snpdf/1980http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/files/file/1412-tractor-1980-d-160-d-200-auto-da-om-wiring-snpdf/Garry

JohnHill 0 #6 Posted November 9, 2015 Thanks guys! bmsgaffer - thanks for the info. Is the D-series less common? I believe it is a double pulley clutch. Just hard to see the second groove in the picture.jackhammer - I don't know that John Hill, but he could be related, you never know.
bmsgaffer 2,046 #7 Posted November 9, 2015 The D series are less common than the C series, but there are plenty of them around. They are just too big for many people, so I think they appeal to a smaller range of buyers.
