rmaynard 15,874 #1 Posted March 7, 2012 These pictures were mailed to me from a gentleman who asked me if I could tell him the value of his tractor. I told him that since I was not all that familiar with the black hood series, I would post the pictures and see what my fellow Wheel Horse collectors thought. He has owned this one since new, and it has been garage kept, and regularly maintained, The engine runs as good as the tractor looks. He is not sure if he is going to sell it or pass it along to a family member. It is in south central PA.
whfan74 2,068 #2 Posted March 7, 2012 Bob it does look nice.....I would say in the ball park of $550-$650 if everything is in good working order. It seems as though he took really good care of it.

AMC RULES 37,144 #5 Posted March 7, 2012 Just curious, as I've heard most are cracked around where they mount.

Kelly 1,030 #8 Posted March 7, 2012 If I had that tractor here in MI. I would start at $950 if it is as nice as the pics show it, and the deck is also just as nice.

shallowwatersailor 3,214 #11 Posted March 7, 2012 Bob, Yes it does look clean and well cared for. The deck does look good. Two years ago I paid $500.00 for my C-105 which is pictured in the gallery. It is a 1980 with the steel fender so perhaps having the plastic fender in such good shape may increase the value somewhat. John
tunahead72 2,506 #12 Posted March 8, 2012 Interesting Bob, these prices are all over the map, aren't they? I can tell you that I paid $1000 for my 1981 C-105 back in 2001. It was in roughly comparable shape at the time, I thought it was a fair price then, and looking back I still think it was fair given its condition. The engine had been rebuilt recently, the deck had been cleaned up and some minor repairs made, one of the tires had been replaced, and everything worked well. The only flaws I ever noticed were a couple of broken areas of the plastic fenders that had been patched with duct tape, and they're still holding to this day. Hope this helps! Ken B 3,165 #13 Posted March 8, 2012 I don't really know what it would fetch here in CT but no doubt it would go for more than 450.00. It is SUPER clean. I'm sure the owner paid at least 100 bucks for the seat alone.
JackC 617 #14 Posted March 8, 2012 It looks to be in immaculate condition. It is very hard to find a plastic fender in that good a condition. I would say no less than $700 and it is probably worth a lot more to a real black hood collector. I bought a 1983 C-175 Twin Automatic in immaculate condition with only 278 hours on it for $600 but the fender was cracked. I also paid a friend $1,000 to travel from Massachusetts to Indiana to get it for me because I did not not want to take a chance on having it shipped. It also did not have any attachments. refracman 167 #15 Posted March 8, 2012 It is pretty good shape, around here 650-800 with the 42" deck. I picked this one up from the original owner, who bought in Nov. 79, it came with the original paper work and the original mower blades also, as the spares and only had one sharpen on them , and no it hasn't been restored.
can whlvr 993 #16 Posted March 8, 2012 you couldnt buy it here in ontario for anything less than a grand, probally more
brybrychrismer 17 #17 Posted March 8, 2012 I would say $750 to $1000. Its a good looking tractor but looks arent everything. It would depend on how the motor runs and how well the transmission is as well.
