Wheel Horse REO Snowblower.

Anyone know anything about these snowblowers??

Was this machine actually made by Wheel Horse in South Bend?

or was "Reo" the actual manufacturer, and it was simply "branded" with the Wheel Horse name?

Based on the overall look of the machine, its probably 1960's or 1970's manufacture..(maybe early 80's, but I doubt that..)

anyone know any details on these machines?

Im into old snowblowers, and Wheel Horse tractors, so this is a very interesting "crossover" item for me! I would love to find one of these myself!

Wheel Horse purchased the REO lawn and garden line in the early 60s. They continued to make the REO by Wheel Horse

I've had a Trailblazer 7 and still have and use a Trailblazer 5.

Jason i was reading a 1968 popular science that had a article about the trailblazer 7 and 5 , was able to mount a 32" rotary deck to it after the thrower latches are released. Would you know anything about this Attachment.

Sure do Smitty...but in all honesty, only a little. The mower deck is model 5-4322. (I think there was a 5-4321 also) It's basically just a 32" gear drive deck from the late 60s with a 90

Ariens (and Graveley, and probably others) also had an "attachment" line in the 1960's and 70's, that could convert a snowblower into a mower, tiller, vaccum..etc..

Awesome find. Might be an old thread , but its still cool. I never knew REO was bought by WH , or the oddball product lines (mower attachments and snowmobiles and other cool stuff)

Just fired this Ol' girl up last eve,...been in storage for last cpl yrs. Got to run a cpl laps around the driveway, but then started acting up. The idle adjustment needle keeps vibrating loose. Do I need to replace it, the spring, or teflon tape the threads a bit?

Also, I fould/bought manual for this, on Ebay a cpl yrs ago,...but to no avail, can't find. Does anybody have a download of same?

Hi everyone,

 I have the same Reo Snow Blower my dad bought new in 1966. Does anyone know where i can buy parts? The front auger gear box is leaking thru the auger shaft bearings.

I have the same blower with the same problem. 

According to the parts diagram gwest has posted, the seals are no longer available but I'm sure they can be had if the dimension is ascertained. Wheel Horse will have used an off the shelf seal.

 

The dimensions may be part of the part number.

Try Motion Industries guys, there is a link in the vendors section. I recently found some oddball seals there. You might need the id/od tho or a number off the old seal might help. Might be a 3/4" id 1" od as that was common for the day.

i have never worked on a gearbox before but I'm mechanically adept.

i have topped off the gearbox with the required 90w oil but some leaks out. It seems some remains below the level of the seals which may be enough to keep the gears happy.

i have no idea how long it's been leaking so I want to fix it but I don't want to run into any problems on so old of a machine.

 

And yes, this machine is very solid. The metal they used to build it is 50% thicker than on modern machines. They just formed it and it retains its shape without having to fold the edges for rigidity.

My dad bought it new in 1968.

The Snow thrower isn't show Room quality, but is does the job! The exploded view for the Toro looks to be the same parts.

A couple of us Horse nuts are rehabbin' the snowthrower for a senior citizen. Older than me, I'm a "young" Wheel Horse addicted 70 year old.

Which belt is P/N 6552?

After purchasing belts, I mark the sleeve with a magic marker and staple it on the wall; i.e.: Raider 48" deck, 414-8 Drive Belt, etc.

From the Wheel Horse belt chart

6551 is 3L x 30.50" - This one no longer available from Toro - (Not aware of anyone else supplying fractional sizes)

6552 is 3L x 30.07" - This one still available from Toro but everywhere else also. (Even inch)

Adding

Gates BladeRunner # 6411BR is 3/8" x 30-1/2". Napa should be able to get one.

The 6411BR replaces MTD numbers 7540346 and 9540346 so if they are fabric covered they should be suitable replacements. Appear to be very popular.
